Milei Confirms Intention to Step Down After 2031

Buenos Aires, March 5 (NA) -- President Javier Milei reiterated his goal of stepping away from power if he eventually secures a second term in office, which would likely occur between 2027 and 2031, as stated in an interview to be released in the coming days. In this regard, the head of state emphasized: 'After the year 2031, you won't see me around anymore,' thereby reaffirming his intention to distance himself from politics in the medium term after achieving the objectives he set with La Libertad Avanza (LLA), the party that brought him to the Casa Rosada. Furthermore, he referred to his relationship with the opposition in several segments of the interview, asserting, 'They won't take me down like they did (Mauricio) Macri,' following the spats and jabs he had with several legislators during his speech last Sunday at the start of the ordinary sessions of Congress. The La Nación + channel aired a clip of the interview conducted by journalist Luis Majul, which will be broadcast in full next Sunday. The interview also addressed other topics, including the judicial case involving the president of the AFA, Claudio Tapia, and one of his closest collaborators, Pablo Toviggino, the entity's treasurer. 'If they are guilty, they have to pay,' Milei affirmed regarding the case for alleged tax evasion by the AFA, following a complaint by the Agency for Revenue and Customs Control (ARCA), which has the local football and other sectors on edge. On another front, the president described businessman Javier Madanes Quintanilla, owner of the Fate tire factory, as a 'crony and extortionist.' The factory closed its doors in mid-February and laid off about 900 employees. Additionally, he is one of the main shareholders of Aluar (Argentine Aluminum), another company in crisis.
